The marchers began around 8:30 PM and after turning West on Ontario, they turned left again, heading South into Montreal's financial district (Palais Des Congres, Caisse de Depots, etc.) Some of the students were obviously not satisfied with the way the Caisse invested their money :) Standing in front of the building they broke a glass door and pelted rocks and a metal garbage can, causing damages to the other doors. Later there was evidance that the glass windows of a Scotia bank head office were also broken. I saw the aftermath as I passed by. Around 10:00 PM it seemed the march had circled back to the same area where the glass doors were broken earlier. The police announced from the rear that the protest was illegal and that everybody should disperse. The riot police began charging from the rear and everyone started running. You can hear me whisper "Sh*t" at the beginning of the video. Other students can be heard saying "Ca vient" ("It's coming"), so they probably were no strangers to the riot police methods. The protesters ran back through the park and two loud explosions were heard, follwed by a third. I kept filming. There was an interesting moment of restraint when one riot cop held back another. The student can be seen antagonizing them afterwards. Then a cop on a bike got all serious with me, told me to turn around and walk away. I immediately backed off...because I don't want to have my camera confiscated or damaged. So I can't say what happened to the mass of protesters after this. The toxic smoke caused my eyes to burn a little bit, but not as bad as some others got it. Ahh Montreal! We got to sort this mess out! My solution: public inquiry into the way the University administrations spend / mis-spend money. Open the books and clean it up!, and we may find that there is enough to go around.
