LIVE RECORDING FROM DARBAR FESTIVAL 2013
THURSDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2013
TRANSPOSED RHYTHM AND THE SARASWATI VEENA

Taniavartnam

Jayanthi Kumaresh, saraswati veena
Patri Satish Kumar, mridangam

The eighth annual Darbar Festival opens with a double bill concert of drums performed by Bernhard Schimpelsberger to Indian rhythms together with Munde on the pakhawaj. Kumaresh performs Carnatic ragas through her graceful, emotive and expressive form. A seventh generation musician and multi award winner brings to the Festival one of India's oldest instruments, the Saraswati (Goddess of the Arts) veena. The veena is one of the three celestial musical instruments, now in danger of extinction, which makes this concert very rare. (Extract from the Festival brochure).
