Theresa has fought for her life since the day she was born. Three months premature, weighing only 1 lb. 10 oz., doctors doubted she would survive the night. Her early arrival has left her with a limp caused by cerebral palsy. In February 2000, five days before her 4th birthday, Theresa had surgery that helped her walk better. Tragically, her eight-month older brother, her best friend and protector, died on the same day in a car accident on his way to the hospital. In middle school Theresa faced another loss. Her father abandoned the family. Her mother worked three jobs to raise four children. Theresa is a self-described nerd. She has a 4.0 GPA and is president of her class. Theresa hopes to attend The Ohio State University and to eventually become an orthopedic surgeon to change the lives of others in need. Theresa is a 2014 Children's Defense Fund Ohio Beat the Odds scholarship recipient. Watch her story and learn more about the program http://bit.ly/IJS8hg .
