I could go on and on. The list of important women in dance and music is as long and distinguished as Willa Mae Rickers' legs, as saucy as Dawn Hampton's wink, as powerful as Norma Miller's tongue. We've come here tonight to call up some of their beauty and strength. To grab hold of some inspiration and see what it stirs up inside us. To think of ourselves as leading our lives with even a fraction of the wisdom, say, Ella Fitzgerald used to lead her band.
A few of us put together some tributes. A few of us just wanted to get out here and shake our booties. You get to watch. Enjoy yourselves. And remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did only backwards and in high heels. Let's do it, girls!
