This is a simple little game that I wrote for the Spartan 3E FPGA starter board by Digilent. I nicknamed it "RoachWars".

The game design is all my own work. My buddy Cavs helped by inspiring the concept, although I had to simplify it somewhat from the original MMORPG format he had in mind in order to fit in on the FPGA.

VGA output was written by myself using several reference designs found on the internet. The PS/2 mouse code was taken from the reference code provided by Digilent at the link below and modified to suit my project (mostly by removing un-used funtionality).

All written in VHDL, which is my first time using this language. It was for a uni assignment so I won't be giving out the source code, no matter how nicely you ask. However if you follow this link to the Digilent product information page for the board, you'll find several reference designs that will help get you started.

Here is the link:

Since this is YouTube, I feel I should point out (before someone else does) that I missed a few roaches on purpose to demonstrate the functionality of the health bar and the red health bugs.
