How to adjust the kickdown cable on a 01 Grand Cherokee for firmer/softer shifts and downshift responsiveness. NOTE: Make very small adjustments and then go for a test drive. I try 2 clicks at a time. Also note! Loosening this cable too much will cause soft buttery shifts. Sounds great right? WRONG, your transmission wears much faster like this and can slip the shifts so go as firm as you can tolerate. From the factory its set a little on the soft side for ride comfort. Go firmer, make your transmission happier. Note. This will not change shifting and downshifting on the highway, that is all controlled electronically through the TPS. This will adjust how long your Jeep holds gears and downshifts between 1-2-3. Mine used to bog down coming out of turns and I'd have to put my foot down to get it to do anything, now its snappy, responsive, and feels like a brand new transmission!
