God warns Israel, the Northern Kingdom, “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off. (4) Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency? (Hosea 8:4-5)
God’s kings were supposed to reign from Jerusalem; not from the northern part of a divided kingdom. This is a message about King Ahab and his heathen wife, Jezebel, who was a “helpmeet” to him in all his evil ways. Ahab reigned from his throne in Samaria, the location of the golden calf of the tribe of Dan, and “he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. He also made a grove. The Bible tells us that “Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.” (1 Kings 16:33)
As God said in Hosea 8:4, “they may be cut off.” As God predicted, so it happened.
Our country should beware of raising up leaders who do not espouse Godly princibles. In Baal worship, little children were “sacrificed” by being burned alive while drums played to drown out their screams! Is our country any better when we allow the murder of innocent children in the mother’s womb during an abortion? We should take notice of the judgment God rendered upon this evil husband and wife because of the wicked acts they condoned.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
