We worked with 6th graders at Lancaster School on "The Knight's Code," as a call to establish a new code of conduct among their peers. Using the school's mantra, we developed lyrics around the themes of respect, trustworthiness, responsibility, and citizenship. This gave us an opportunity to develop relationships with them and help them cultivate their ability to work as a team. Some of our sessions were very challenging, but were able to guide our students to success through very focused engagement. This project was made possible through Milwaukee Public Schools, Arts @ Large, and the Fill the Gaps Initiative, aimed at meeting critical needs for schools without full time arts or music.
