This tutorial is on how-to stitch a running stitch. The running stitch is used to ease, baste, gather or temporarily join two pieces of fabric together. It can also be used to secure two pieces together when you do not want to use pins. Shorter running stitches of 1/8" to ¼" are used for easing, gathering and seaming. Larger running stitches of ½" to ¾" are used for basting.
