Piece a simple log cabin block in the "picture frames" style from a 3 x 3-inch center square and 2-inch wide logs using the basic technique from my book, Modern Log Cabin Quilting. In this example block, a larger center and tiers of logs in the same fabrics create a graphic and striking block that pieces up quickly, but you can also use this same basic piecing technique with a smaller center, the traditional reflecting sunshine and shadow color arrangement, or any other design choices you prefer.
This one, two, or three-tiered basic block is the perfect way to start making an easy log cabin baby, child's, lap-size, or bed quilt.
Thanks to all who made quilts for for the Quilts for Quake Survivors project, which benefitted those in need in Japan! We sent 30 quilts to people living in shelters in Japan, raised $2,500 for Mercy Corps, and supported Bradley-Angle House here in Portland as well. http://quiltsforquakesurvivors.wordpr...
