Annette Hanshaw sings "Ain't Cha", recorded in New York on November 27, 1929, released on Paramount Publix SR1069P in select movie theaters only!. Annette is in her role as "girl big band singer" accompanied by Ben Selvin and His Orchestra probably consisting of Red Nichols t, Glenn Miller tb, Jimmy Dorsey cl, Jack Hansen bb, George Beebe d, Irving Brodsky p, Tommy Felline bj, PeeWee Russell cl, and Fud Livingston as, with Ben Selvin dir. The music was composed by Mack Gordon and Max Rich. Ain't Cha was featured in the Paramount film Pointed Heels sung by Helen Kane (Betty Boop) and the Paramount Publix label editions were sold only in theaters at the time the film was being exhibited. There were usually only 300 pressings of a Publix label so that they could be considered collector's items. Helen Kane's version of the song could not be sold by Paramount Publix because Kane was under contract to Victor Talking Machine, but Kane did release her own version of Ain't Cha on Victor on October 29, 1929, Victor label 22192, recorded at the Victor Labs, 28 W 44th in New York.. Hanshaw was under contract to Columbia which , I think, produced the 78s for Paramount so Hanshaw was able to make the recording for sale in theaters.
