SpeechLess Live at Scullers Jazz Club Boston, MA
"Day Tripper" arranged by Scott Kulman
(C) Kulman Music 2011

"Day Tripper" - A unique, fresh, and exciting approach to a Beatles standard.

Complementing their original material with crowd-pleasing covers, SpeechLess enjoys the challenge of finding unique and fresh approaches to performing and arranging standards such as The Beatles "Day Tripper".

The challenge lies in transforming music that is so engraved it the public's ear and making it sound like a SpeechLess original.

SpeechLess' version kicks off with a funkifized version of the famous Day Tripper 'guitar riff' that is quickly greeted by the horn section. The sax enters first with the trumpet not far behind. The interplay between the horn lines is reminiscent of Lennon/McCartney vocals, sharing leads and harmonizing one another. A whirling organ solo precedes a blues-infused guitar lead. After revisiting the Day Tripper guitar riff, the groove is reset by guitar and percussion erupting into a no holds barred sax feature.

The arrangement's climax unfolds with rhythm section stabs underscoring the sax solo until the unaccompanied bass briefly displays some fiery finger work. Finally the familiar melody returns and the song comes full circle to conclude the way it began.
