The 2009 Building Hope Award is being presented to an individual who has given extraordinary volunteer service to people in need of adequate, safe housing.
Robert (Bob) Q. Beyard is one of the reasons why some of the citizens of Duval County who never thought they could afford to buy a house, now have a home of their very own. Bob volunteers his time to help build houses for Habijax- nearly every Saturday for the past seven years! Since 2002, he has assisted in building more than 100 homes in Duval County so that people in our community can obtain affordable housing. In addition to helping frame new homes, he leads groups in a variety of construction tasks, such as house wrap and window installation, siding and landscaping. Bob puts 100% effort into his work and leads by example. He takes time to teach volunteers the tasks at hand, making sure they have a great time in the process. He puts his heart and soul into this life-changing work and has even taken his expertise beyond the United states to attend a Global Village Trip to Ireland where joined other Habitat for Humanity volunteers building homes for two weeks.
