Zorro confronts the Council members. A sword fight ensues. That old chesnut, a blanket is thrown over Zorro (maybe played by Ralph Faulkner), Sigh. THe Council members make their escape. Zorro (Yakima Canutt) jumps on his horse.
"Zorro and his Fighting Legion" which spanned 13 16 minute episodes (ep 1 was about 25 mins) and took five weeks to make in 1939, was widely regarded as one of the best among the Replublic serials, in terms of the overall qualities. The other being "King of the Rocketmen". These two serials were shown again several times in the UK in the early eighties up until early nineties.
There is a book by William Witney, "In a door, In a fight, out a door, into a chase". It covers his entry into the business and his Republic films. As it is, Zorro only gets a small mention, although Canutt's stunts get mentioned quite a bit, especially the mid-series stagecoach stunt(which goes wrong) that is repeated in the John Wayne film.
Music by William Lava and Cy Feuer (Producer, Cabaret).
You can get these serials inexpensivly on Amazon DVD or you can actually download them for free as they are out of copyright. Although the film/sound quality is frankly abysmal, and with the exception of a couple of stunts, I've posted the best bits!
