The History of Our Heritage #2: Expansion During the Early 1980s”
Sunday, December 6, 2015, 2:00 p.m., Pinellas Room, Heritage Village

James Anthony Schnur
Immediate Past President, Pinellas County Historical Society

During the 2015-2016 year, both Heritage Village and the Pinellas County Historical Society(PCHS) celebrate their fortieth anniversary. The first four “Speaking of History” programs retrace the history of the
Village and the structures that moved to our site.

The second program of the series traces the expansion of the campus at Heritage Village as new buildings arrived between the late 1970s and mid-1980s. While the Safety Harbor Church, Boyer Cottage, and Safford Pavilion sat in close proximity to the first structures, moving crews also brought the Moore House, Greenwood House, and Walsingham House to portions of the north and central areas of the Village that were previously undeveloped. Replicas of the
Williams Park Bandstand and Harris School created new spaces for performances, public events, and educational outreach. During this time, the Pinellas County Historical Society strengthened its partnership with the Village through financing the moving of structures, acquiring artifacts, and expanding research collections.
