A fairly even first half was once again brought to a close by the unerring Tom Greaves. Once again in the right position, the striker smashed in during injury time to give the Reds the lead. Both side kept plugging away after the break, but it was ex-Moston Junior Lewis Lacy, who capitalised from a corner and doubled FCs lead with a deft right footer. The United faithful sang Jingle Bells for the second time in three days, but it was nearly too early as David Bridges headed the Linnets back into it with a 90th-minute effort. But the Reds held firm for the remainder of the game to move up to seventh and can consider it job done for the first two of the four festive fixtures.
