One Minute Bunkai: This is the first video on Kobudo featuring the Kyan No Sai kata. This move is very effective against a downward attack to the head. It employs a classical overhead block while simultaneously using the lead Sai to strike ahead. The lead strike can block the attacking weapon, or the attacker's hands/fingers holding it. This move represents the effectiveness and ingenuity of Okinawan Kobudo, specifically the Sai which was used by law enforcement officers and Palace Guards. The Sai is an awesome weapon that strikes fear into anyone facing a skilled Sai master. We use bamboo bo (staffs) covered in duct tape to practice which are safer. But you have to remember that in real life combat you need a thick and heavy pair of Sai to make a dent against any weapon. Sport Sai Katas that flip the say around using thin lightweight Sai are useless in real life combat.
