One of my staples when I'm in a "gym" phase is the squat. It's one of the most "primal" human movements. It's also a powerhouse when it comes to full body muscle stimulation and even hormone optimization.
But I never let a client touch a barbell without meticulous instruction and practice in the basics of good technique. The squat MUST be done correctly if you want to stay safe in the gym.
