important time in politics for new mexico and the nation. the national republican convention begins in tampa, and then immediately after the democratic convention begins in charlotte, north carolina. we will have live coverage from both. chris ramirez will be in tampa covering the big political stories of the day. he's here with a preview of what we can expect. well things are already shaping up to be a busy week. not only are we anticipating a busy week in politics, we're also keeping an eye on the weather in tampa. a red cross crew deployed friday from albuquerque, heading to florida to help those who may need to take shelter when the hurricane makes LANDFALL. "they are prepared to expect harsh conditions and they are prepared to move at a moment's notice because as you know the storms can shift." republicans are hoping hurricane isaac doesn't steal the show. the convention promises speeches from the party's heavy weights. taking the primetime stage tuesday is governor susana martinez. she says she wants her speech to help americans understand the differences between presidential candidates mitt romney and barack obama. and she wants america to know that new mexico is an important state this election season. "they'll know I'm from the land of enchantment, they'll know that I'm the first Hispanic female governor of the country. But with that come a lot of responsibilities so I want to make sure that as leaders, we need to follow through with our promises." WE SHOULD ALSO EXPECT to see lt. governor john sanchez at the convention as well as albuquerque mayor richard berry. the mayor will be a guest panelist on a nationaltv show taped in tampa to discuss the nation's BIGGEST CONCERNS. "there's the deficit issue, the healthcare issues, there's job creation, there's national security, the national laboratories here, and I just want to make sure that I'm part of the equation that drives it toward a dialogue, a candid dialogue." THE BIGGEST issues facing new mexico and our country will be discussed at the conventions.
