The time has come to officially announce the EcoCAR 3 teams and vehicle platform to the public! We invite you to join us for this event streamed on youtube on April 24, 2014 from 7:00 -- 7:45 pm ET.

The EcoCAR 3 Announcement will be the first time the EcoCAR 3 teams, vehicle platform, and new EcoCAR 3 sponsors will be announced to the public! This is a special event for both the EcoCAR 3 program and the universities teams involved. John Calabrese, of General Motors and David Danielson with the U.S. Department of Energy, will speak at the announcement.

EcoCAR 3 is the newest Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) and is the heart of American automotive ingenuity and innovation. The U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors are challenging 16 North American universities to redesign a General Motors vehicle into a hybrid-electric car that will further reduce environmental impact, while maintaining the performance expected from the consumer.

The EcoCAR teams are charged with taking technology to the next level, by sparking innovative thinking, solving complex engineering challenges and applying the latest cutting-edge advanced technologies. Teams have four years (2014-2018), to harness those ideas into energy to meet engineering, environmental and economic goals. The student teams develop and implement eco power and performance under the hood, retain safety and meet high consumer standards. The teams also will focus on developing technology that will lower emissions by incorporating alternative fuels.

Managed by Argonne National Laboratory, EcoCAR 3 is the ultimate ground for minting future engineers. Automakers are vying for tech talent, and this launching pad moves students from academia to the working world - blazing the trail for generations to come.
