The first step to getting out of debt is saving a $1,000 emergency fund. How do you do that? Stop using your credit card is the biggest thing. The emergency fund is to give you that cushion for life's little emergencies so you won't need a credit card.

How do I save a $1,000? Look around your house. Sell something. Sell anything you haven't used in a year. Sell anything that isn't bolted to the floor. Have a yard sale. Get rid of that "classic" car that's got weeds growing around it.

The biggest secret to getting out of debt is you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to get the process started (notice those two words "you" and "do?") If that includes getting a part time job, so be it. If that includes working a third job, so be it. It's only temporary.
