Dharma Quotes

"The definition of standard of living that economists use to measure how we are doing as a society is incomplete and narrow. It includes only the material goods and services that we produce and that we can use in our personal lives. The true standard of living for humanity includes intangibles, such as the quality of the air we breath and the sense of fulfillment in our relationships with each other."

"Each of us needs to discover our true standard of living by looking deeply at our life and our self and going beyond the prevailing ideas of our culture."

In The Video: The Mighty Han

The mighty Han was created in the early 1980's for Kannon Do by Bob Poulsen and William Stocker. It was a birthday gift to Les. Bob purchased the extremely dense hardwood (an "exotic South American wood") and he and William chiseled out the design "with many resharpenings of some very good chisels," partly based on a traditional design. Letting the Han sound by using the mallet in a particular rhythm announces the beginning of zazen.
