British Bobsleigh has launched a nationwide recruitment drive for the sliding stars of the future as they aim to build on the historic medal success at the Winter Youth Olympics.

Mica McNeill and Jazmin Sawyers bagged silver in the two-women bob at the inaugural games in Igls, Austria, while Kirsten Emery and Frances Slater were narrowly edged into fourth.

Olly Biddulph and James Lelliott were also just a tenth of a second away from a medal in the men's race, making it an extremely encouraging weekend for British Bobsleigh's youngest-ever competitors.

All six got into the sport just 18 months ago when British Bobsleigh, based at the University of Bath, launched their youth squad by going around local schools to find talented athletes.

Now the scheme is being opened up to teenagers across the country, with performance director Gary Anderson hoping that today's launch of the Futures Programme will help to unearth more medallists.
