Demonstration of a Pashley Tri-1 fitted with a pronto chainwheel-drive electric motor system.
By driving the chainset (rather than the wheels) the rear gears come into play: in low gear it has massive torque up to ~6mph. In top gear it can run at over 20mph on the flat.
Great for load hauling, shopping and folks with a balance problem. I have carried 3 folded Bromptons, a passenger and pulled a trailer. Trikes are great at low speed because they remain stable: a motor can be geared really low for high torque at very low speeds.
