In 1940, Packard was still a stellar luxury make and to reach as many markets as possible, several models were offered. Starting at the bottom rung was the Model 110, 62,300 built, then the 120, 28138 built, the Super 8 160, 5,662 built, next is the Custom Super 8 Model 180 with 1,900 built. The Model 180 is as close to a limosine as could be. This example shown here is a 7 passenger that cost $2,683 and had a wheelbase of 148 inches. This year Packard moved away from Cadillac by tilting toward the midprice field. Model year production was up 111 percent to 98,000 units which placed them in 9th place. There ae 3 engines available for Packards: An L-head 6, 245 cid / 100 bhp only for the Model 110, An L-head 8, 282 cid / 120 hp only for the Model 120, and the L-head 8, 356 id / 160 bhp., for Super and Custom Super Eights. This 180 just looks regal from every angle and the sumptious interior. Just plain beautiful and huge car with luxury abounding. Thanks very much for viewing this 1940 Packard Custom Super Eight Model 180.
