This collection of photos was taken by a group of dedicated volunteers across the US during the Aug 21, 2017 total solar eclipse. They have been algorithmically stitched together, based on the time and location of the photo, to give us an extended look at the sun’s atmosphere. Where we have gaps you'll see the previous image shown for a longer period. As more images are uploaded and processed these will be filled in and the movie will get better and better.
This is a small preview of the larger dataset, which will be made public shortly. It will allow for improved movies like this and will provide opportunities for the scientific community to study the sun for years to come.
