An authentic Yorkshire Dales market town, Leyburn boasts a host of small, independent shops, cafes and pubs which crowd around the cobbled main square.
Familiar high street names may be hard to come by but what the town lacks in fads it more than makes up for with variety and originality.
Hand-made chocolates, locally-produced beer, ice-cream and cheese and produce from local farms are all celebrated in the town’s annual Dales Festival of Food and Drink – but you don’t have to wait till then to try them.
Leyburn welcomes local traders to a bustling market every Friday, when farmers also flock to town for weekly livestock auctions. Special events include an annual 1940s Weekend and the Wensleydale Show, which is held over the August Bank holiday weekend.
