Today, we are taking to the streets with a message for Apple's customers and staff -- that their favourite brand must live up to its reputation as one of the most revolutionary companies of our time by changing the way they source their power for our data storage.

Apple clean your cloud

Early this morning, Greenpeace activists gave out "black cloud" balloons and stickers at Apple's flagship store in the centre of Sydney's business district.

Apple was one of the worst performers in our recent 'How clean is your cloud' report.

The report evaluated 14 IT companies based on key elements needed to build a clean cloud*, including the electricity supply chain of over 80 data centres associated with major brands.

It found that Google and Yahoo are showing commitment to clean energy while Apple, Amazon and Microsoft rely heavily on outdated fossil fuels to deliver their clouds.

The report research also found that if the cloud were a country its electricity demand would currently rank 5th in the world, and is expected to triple by 2020.
