This could be from being proud cut - http://www.thinklikeahorse.org/index-... - or could be from being cut late and being a stallion for so long. Watching this horse protect his herd, showing a stance of strong and challenging behavior helps fend off predators and keeps the herd on their toes. Notice the horse keeping distance between the target, his herd and obstacles. All of this is by design and this behavior is passed on to other herd members, younger geldings and mares.
