Before we begin, I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for my life, and all the gifts which I've been given in it, including the ability to make this extension. Your name be glorified, my Savior, even in something as small as this. Amen.

Can you hear Zoids? Kyaa! Update, the unprofessional stage two-kay begun has, with the hoster of tranlated foolishness, Universal Formula! I HAZ FURY!

Yeah. That's... pretty much how badly botched the English translation of 'Zoids Legacy' (really Zoids Saga II, in Japan) was. Oh, and it would probably have identified me as a gender opposite of what I truly am. Fun!

But fun is indeed the word I would use to describe this little known gem from Takara-Tomy and Atari. Based on the long-running motorized model slash toyline known as Zoids, the story of Zoids Legacy goes that a Space-Time Transmission Unit, developed by the Arcadian Kingdom (no relation to Skies of Arcadia, sadly) has gone amuck. The result? ENGRISH!

No, no, seriously now. Multiple chapters in Planet Zi's colorful history -- mostly from the Anime versions of Chaotic Century and New Century Zero, but a few others as well -- have been merged into a single, warped world. The main character (default name: Zeru, or Zell) finds himself going on a quest to gather allies in order to defeat the fiendish Backdraft Organization, and their enigmatic ally, Terra Geist, who plan to rule over all space and time!

So this is a little different from my usual fare. And not just because I looped a GBA track, although that was kind of new to me also. See, I actually have the game on emulator -- that's legal if'n ye own the original game and system, mateys, yarrr! -- and decided to record the final boss fight against Gard Krueger, self-proclaimed Prince and heir apparent to the throne of the nefarious Zenebas Empire. He has fully awakened the powerful Death Meteor, a Zoid capable of incredible destructive power...

... or it -would- be, if the AI weren't so silly. I had to reset one turn four times to get Gard to do his Charged Particle Cannon, which is the Zoids universe equivalent of a miniature Death Star laser. Not that it helped him much, hehe. (I kind of over-leveled... and brought in the secret 'only available after you beat the game' Zoid, Gilvader, for added insult.)

Still, if you ever find yourself with the time and money to do so, I recommend picking up Zoids Legacy. It's a quaint little turn-based RPG whose mangled localization is, at least to me, more than made up for by the awesomeness of getting to pilot and color-customize 151 Zoids in battle. Plus, you have got to love some of the bizarre little mistranslations that pop up from time to time.

As for the music itself? I was surprised at just how much emotion and dramatic impact one tinny little GBA tune could have. I can only imagine how much more spectacular it would sound, were it in orchestral or symphonic form.
