100 years ago (05/08/1916), composer George Butterworth was killed on the Somme by a sniper's bullet - a tragic loss for British music. George is commemorated on the CWGC Thiepval Memorial along with more than 72,000 other men with no known grave.

We have recently created a fantastic free Thiepval App, which tells the story of 900 of these men, including George Butterworth.
