Mikael Ruskoff, a homicide detective in Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, catches a case involving the kidnapping/murders of young girls. After working the case of the first broken body, he becomes obsessed with catching the killer. One dead girl after another is discovered, but he gets no closer to finding the killer than when he started. The pressure ratchets up when his partner commits suicide after they both work the discovery of yet another little girl’s murder and realize they’re dealing with a serial killer.

Then the last thing he ever imagined would happen, happened. The father who deserted him when he was a toddler shows up, demanding Mikael return to his fold. Before long, his father begins to stalk him, insisting he wants to groom Mikael to be his successor in his secret organization. But Mikael wants nothing to do with his father and refuses to consider a relationship with him.

The killer grows braver in his abductions and Mikael becomes more desperate to capture him. Then he’s offered an opportunity, a deal, one that will not only give them the killer’s name but save the last victim. In exchange, he has to meet certain unholy demands. He fears the deal will somehow affect his family.

And then the unimaginable happens, his mother's murdered in her hospital bed. He suspects, but can’t prove, that his father ordered it. Now his wife and son are in his father’s line of sight. The child murderer is still eluding capture. And the little girls keep dying.

Something has to give.
