English Translation of commentary with time index:
Starting Animation (0:12): Space...the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship earth with their many billions of members, which drives in alittle more than 365 days arround the sun. Every day we get sun and moon sets and raisings. In 99.97 percent of all conditions this goes with less spectauclar.
Scene with sunset (0:36): We get after a more or less long day an sunset.
Scene with shadow on hand (0:43): But sometimes there happens special things. Through the sun all planets have shadows like all objects on earth. In the above scene you see earth and moon from the top, to the north pole. In the bottom scene you see the same situation from side. Because of the uneven way of the moon this shadows are falling in the space. But sometimes it happens that the moon will move exactly between sun and earth and than we get a total eclipse. Than we have the unique possibility to see sun, moon and stars at the same time.
Several Shadow lines (1:22): A total eclipse is a very seldom event. This are the shadow lines of the Saros cycle 145, one of 42 shadow cycles. To paint these lines it takes 1000 years. If we take alle cycles together we get 2.3 ecplipses every year.
Scene with partly covered sun (1:38): But now to reality. That's the way the sun looks like on 11th August 1999 in the south of Munich.
1:56 - If you are affraid to see such scenes of the sun in the next 8 minutes, where the sun is more or less covered by the moon, I can give you a better outlook. Long before the total eclipse it was clear to me, that the events on the earth will also take a very interesting part. But here it is clear, that this needs much of work in front of the main event. In summary 5 camera men with 8 cameras were on action in the hot 3 minutes of the total eclipse.
Shadow picture (2:31): In 3 hours and 7 minutes the total eclipse take it's way of 14000 km on the surface of our earth. It starts in the north of Atlantic ocean and ends in gulf of Bengale.
Scene with moving shadow on map (2:43): The main shadow travel with more than 2600 km/h from west to east. That are 700 meters per second. That means that higher points with outlook to the west for the coming shadow and points with outlook to the east for the vanishing shadow were best.
Scene with corn field (3:04): Here are the places of the camera crews. Grünbach between Erding and Taufkirchen with outlook to the Airport Franz-Josef-Strauß in the west.
Scene with church (3:17): Gündlkofen with outlook over the highway A92 to Landshut in the east.
Scene in city (3:25): And at least in Munich on Sendlinger Tor to look at the reactions in a mayor city.
Scene with police car (3:45): The police on hut of sun thief.
Long scene with corn field (3:58): You see how it becomes slowly darker. All scenes are made with automatic lense and running in normal speed. In the background you see the lights of airport.
Long scene with church (4:25): In the foreground it started to get darker and in the backfround it is already bright.
Scene with airplane (5:38): Also while an total eclipse airplanes are landing.
Dark scene in Munich (5:50): There was rain in Munich, but on the horizon you will see the coming light.
Long scene in the dark (corn field) (6:38): On the right side of the horizont you already can see the green fields.
Long scene in the dark (church) (7:10): Watch on the church in the foreground, it will start to shine.
