We were filming Pacific white-sided dolphins under our Canadian marine mammal research permit. We use photo-identification of individual dolphins to estimate abundance and survivorship. We were not expecting killer whales to appear, but when they did, we followed at a distance and recorded this rarely witnessed attack behaviour. We are currently looking for similar examples of this activity, to write about predator-prey interactions between dolphins and killer whales.
