On 25 Sept. 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) agreed on goals that will replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be used to set the global development agenda, and to decide which countries receive funding, for at least the next 15 years. Our Goal To ensure that comprehensive tobacco control – as set out in the FCTC and as a major tool for NCD prevention – is recognised as a priority in the post-2015 global development agenda. Now that the SDGs have been adopted, the focus should shift to convincing national governments that stronger tobacco control will help them to realise their development objectives.
