The Flyboard, a cross between a jet ski and a jet pack, takes off in Australia.

Full Story:

The Flyboard, a combination of jet ski and jet pack, is on display in Australia's Gold Coast waters on Monday.

French jet skier Franky Zapata invented the device in 2011.

Riders can fly up to 32 feet in the air, and also dive, dolphin-like, under the water.

The Flyboard is attached to a jet ski by a hose that pumps water to keep it aloft.

Riders use their feet to control the direction, and their hands to keep it stable.

[Peter Hendra, Flyboard Australia Director and Distributer]
"It's an extension of your body, you pull that Ironman pose, stand up, and you'll freely fly around."

The Flyboard sells for nearly 12,000 US dollars.
