From Korea comes the Chungyang Red Pepper, was sent this with a heap of others from Korea last season and has been growing really well, nearly the Middle of winter here and its still going along, flowering and podding up still so the Last pod test for the season, Simone joins in and we have a crack at the Chungyang or Cheong Yang Gochu

Chungyang Red Pepper
Revised Romanization Cheong-yang Gochu

The Chungyang Red Pepper' is a small-sized chili pepper that has a strong burning sensation when eaten. It is a cultivar of the species Capsicum annuum originating in South Korea and developed by Dr. Il-ung Yoo (유일웅) by hybridizing Thai and Jeju-do cultivars.[ Chungyang Red Peppers have 10,000 - 23,000 Scoville heat units.

Plants get to around a Metre tall, this in a pot so would get a bit bigger in the ground, not a big producer but was kept in the shade and think would produce better if given more sun throughout the season. The pods look similar to the Asian Birdseye but a bit thinner, they start off green and get 4-5 cm long , just under 1 cm wide.

What are they Like ?
How Hot are they ?

Taste similar to the Asian Birdseye, a bit sweeter and tangier but not overpowering and a crisp fresh taste, pretty seedy but was really nice actually and would go Excellent in stir fry's or just sliced and tossed into or on anything really as get a light chilli flavour but not overtake the flavour of the food..

Heat heats pretty quick in the back of the throat, top palate and tongue, Stingy burn that picks up to a nice upper mid level then cruises along for a fair while and could still feel the burn on the lips, tongue and even a tingle on the back of the throat after the break, so although its not superhot, the burn is decent and lasts a while..

Nothing too special but does seem to like the cooler temps, looks nice and doesn't need a lot of looking after..

Can get the seeds from www.thehippyseedcompany.com Just email and ask..
