A luminous, magical debut by a thrilling new literary talent: the story of an isolated Romanian village which tries to save itself from WWII by starting the world over again from scratch, and the girl who is determined to tell its story.

Ramona Ausubel talks about her upcoming book, NO ONE IS HERE EXCEPT ALL OF US (on sale Feb. 2, 2012).

It is 1939, and in a small, Jewish village in Romania, somewhat isolated from history by its remote geography, the townspeople have just gotten wind of what is happening elsewhere in Europe. In reaction, to keep out the imminent danger and to protect themselves, the villagers decide they will start their world over -- cut all ties to the old world, decide that it never existed, and begin their world again completely anew. Destiny is unwritten. Time and history are forgotten. Jobs, husbands, a child, are reassigned. There is boundless hope.

Still, the real world continues to unfold alongside the imagined one, eventually overtaking it, and soon our narrator -- a young girl, who grows into a young mother -- must escape and flee her village, move from one world to the next, to find her husband and save her children from a clear, terrible fate; to move them toward an infinite future.
