DIWALI, the Indian festival of light kicks off this week, but its celebration means curtains for about a few thousand owls.
Shamans use owl body parts including the skull, feathers, ear tufts, blood and beak, in their rituals during the festival in order to attract wealth and cure fevers.
While all trade in wild birds is banned in India, the prcise number of owls that are being trafficked isn't known, however, a report published Tuesday showed the practice putting some species under threat.
