Apple stores are really bad at diagnosing this and most of the time will miss it. If you find when you move your laptop that lines will sometimes go across the screen and the laptop freezes, a bad ram slot is likely your problem. Sometimes when starting the laptop it won't start and will instead beep. If you have these symptoms and apple can't seem to fix it make sure you suggest to them that the symptoms match a bad ram slot.

It's almost always the BOTTOM slot that is bad, so just taking out the bottom stick of ram and leaving the top one in will usually fix the issue.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an advanced diagnosis technique and it's not particularly advised. Make sure you are totally grounded and the laptop stable. BEFORE ATTEMPTING try it with the back on the laptop and just tapping in about the same place. Having the back off just makes it easy to swap the ram to the other slot and try again so you can tell which slot is bad.
