Unrealistic project demands may require the project manager to employ schedule compression techniques in order to complete the project on schedule. The project manager (who is ultimately responsible for managing stakeholder expectations) should voice any concerns about unrealistic demands, especially if they may impact the scope of the project (among other things). the project manager may even make a reasonable request for additional resources. Of course, the project sponsor may not always be responsive to such feedback and, as a result, may suggest either replacing the project manager or sending in a project resource who can assist in terms of team motivation.
