Arts and Culture, University of Exeter selected three creative projects, working with practitioners of differing disciplines, to explore and create artistic responses to the theme of ‘Urgency’ as part of their Arts Commissions 2019.
One of them, Catherine Cartwright is a multi-disciplinary artist, working primarily with printmaking, drawing and film, often exploring socio-political issues. Here she tells all about her project 'Brave New World', a project which considers facial recognition technology and its possible effects on the nature of protest. Protest is a way that together we can drive change. But will the use of live facial recognition technology stop people from protesting in the future?
