One of if not the worse mass shooting in US History, This one has a few elements unique.. Booby trapped apartments, Body armor wearing shooter.
Could this spark a push for more gun restrictions?
Talking heads seems to think the answer is no, it's an election year and gun control is a looser issue for politicians.. or is it? The ferocity of the Anti's on CNN's website as the story broke makes me not so sure.

Political Updates:
July 25th: Obama in a speech says: "A lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals," Leaving one to wonder where that leaves (law abiding) civilians?

July 26th: Senator. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has proposed an amendment to a cybersecurity bill expected for vote next week that would limit magazine capacity to 10 rounds for all center fire firearms.

July 30th: Senator Frank Lautenberg (NJ) Introduces Bill to ban online ammo sales "It's time to close the loophole that's allowing killers — deranged, insane — and even terrorists to buy ammunition online," said Lautenberg, He was joined by Carolyn McCarthy (NY) to announce the "Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act."

September 10th: Author John Lott makes case that James might have picked the theater specifically because it was a no gun zone.

October 16th: During the 2nd presidential debate the candidates are asked about assault weapons, Obama mentions the Colorado theater shooting and states his support of renewing the assault weapon ban.
Despite wanting to ban "assault weapons", Obama goes on to mention that the majority of gun violence is being committed with "cheap handguns", Perhaps a nod to banning inexpensive brands like Hi-point & Cobra?

Shooting Updates:
July 24th: The vest bought by James was in fact not bullet proof but rather tactical.
Although it's not clear if he wore something else during the shooting it's possible his vest was not bullet proof.
