Welsh Highland Railway Super Power Weekend 2011.

As part of the annual WHR Super Power weekend in 2011, a series of trains were timed on the ascent of the lengthy climb from Beddgelert to the summit of the line at Pont Cae'r Gors, on gradients between 1 in 40 & 1 in 48, with the best performance to be crowned "King of the Hill".

Although considered outsiders before the event, the title was to be handed to the Ffestiniog's ex-Penrhyn sisters 'Linda' & 'Blanche', for this blistering run on Sunday the 11th. In light showers, the 2 2-4-0STT Hunslet-built locos slipped & slithered up the hill, recording the third best time of the weekend, second only to double-headed Garratts Nos 143 & 87, & Garratt No 138 which single-handedly set the fastest time. However, by comparing the EDHP produced in ratio to their grate area, representatives from the Railway Performance Society judged that the performance of the Penrhyn ladies eclipsed even that of the Garratts, & subsequently declared them 'King of the Hill'.
