Part Two.... See the second old railway line destined to be used by the planned guided busway. The old Oxford to Cambridge railway branched off from Cambridge station, past Trumpington towards Potton and Sandy. (Trumpington never actually had a station on this line.) The film shows the old route as far as Trumpington Park and Ride.(the planned busway terminus. The track long since gone has given way to marsh like conditions in some places. A planned spur will take the guided bus over the railway on a new bridge to Addenbrookes Hospital. Shown at the end of the film. Years ago there were plans for a railway station at Addenbrookes, with all the benefits that would bring. Extra track capacity could have been provided by using the old Oxford to Cambridge railway. The guided bus will 'put pay to that'. The guided bus will encourage more housing in the fields shown on the film. With the houses will come more traffic. Lastly the guided bus will effectively stop the chance of the two great university cities of Oxford and Cambridge ever being linked by rail again! When asked most people don't want the guided bus.
