"I love you with all the fires that have burned." "You, the Goddess I seek to express in all my work, have made me a God." "You ask if I love you. I live for you." These are just a few words from the artist's passionate letters to his muse, model, and wife, Isabel Dutaud Nagle, during their lifelong love affair. Their relationship inspired some of the 20th century's most memorable tributes to "Woman." Curator Paula Hornbostel shares more about the Beaux-Arts-trained sculptor Gaston Lachaise--his life in America, his letters to Isabel, and his important contributions to American Modernism.
