The earwig is the origami champion of the animal kingdom. Its wing can fold to 10 times its size, with minimal muscle movement. Researchers at Purdue University and ETH Zurich have re-created this bio-inspired origami, using 3D-printed plastic with bi-stability. This saves space, weight, and energy, since very little force is required to activate it. This origami could be used in packaging, robotics, and even on satellites!
