Rough translation:
The availability of jobs for those who speak Arabic has increased the search for courses of study for this language throughout the US. And to supply this market, even the US Government has offered scholarships for those studying the language. Watch this report by correspondent (00:15) Rodrigo Alvarez.
Soldiers on screen w/arabic men kneeling on ground saying "ok ok".. w/US soldiers backing up...
Alright you, come here..

What is it that soldiers don't know in the Iraq War. (Camera pans to folks trying to communicate with them in Arabic)...

Camera shifts and fades to classroom (00:23) All the time, more Americans are trying to learn more. Before the war, this Arabic course at the university of California was practically a monologue. Today, there are more than 200 students per semester. Those that want to work for the US Government think that only by understanding Arabic culture can it be possible to change what could be called the "tragic US policy in the region" (00:46). In the last five years, the army of students studying Arabic has doubled in size. There are 24,000 Americans learning the language of the Iraqis, Palestinians and their neighboring middle east and African countries. (01:07) To understand one's enemies is a priority of national security for the United States. After the attacks of 9/11, George Bush's advisors realized that the country even lacked diplomats with adequate understanding of the Arabic language. And after that, its been a race to find people. (01:23) Just this year, in scholarships for students studying strategic languages, the government has distributed the equivalent of $200,000,000 Reais (~$100,000,000 dollars).
(01:32) For Loren Siebert, asking for a Coffee in an Arabic coffee shop is just the first step. After two years of studying, the engineer has become a teacher. (01:45) The program that Loren has created to reduce the time required that Americans require to learn the language has been noted by... 'libercidade'. It is being evaluated today by the US Government. (01:53) Loren speaking an Arabic word.... Words like 'jerusalem' ... of law, brother, and happiness occur with frequency during the courses on the computer. But the message from the engineer can be summarized in two words.. love and peace.
