The Cole Bridges garage on Main Street in Calais (which still stands today-- the white building by the library) suffered from three devastating fires, two of which were less than a year apart. This particular fire (in 1940, perhaps) took place in the heart of winter, leading to an enchanting cascade of slanted icicles formed from the spraying water used to put out the fire.
