In an ever changing world, risk lies around every corner. That's why AXA and our partners stay vigilant, to identify at-risk populations and work tirelessly to improve their quality of life while providing much needed resources to those who are struggling. With the flooding that came to the Than Hao province of Vietnam due to the far reaching effects of Global Warming, the region's livelihood and even the personal safety of its inhabitants was threatened. The people living in these villages depend on a barrier of mangrove trees to protect their homes and provide a fertile fishing ground for their meals. Without assistance, their entire way of life could be destroyed.
AXA, in partnership with NGO CARE France has supported relief efforts that restore the natural environment of the Than Hao region and repair the damages caused by flooding. Already, with the help of local communities, over 80 hectares of mangrove barrier have been planted. This effort greatly reduces the damage caused by wind and waves that has had such an impact on this region over the last ten years. These protections provide over 90,000 people with the security they need to continue living and working in the region.
The entire project is the result of a hugely successful online campaign. The campaign, launched on Facebook, provided continuing support to the re-forestation efforts in Nga Thuy and committed to planting 160 hectares of mangrove forest needed to protect the cities and sea walls of the region. With the mangroves also come crustaceans returning to the waters. Able to fish and sell their catch, the villagers' quality of life has risen to much greater levels than the last decade before AXA and our partners came to their aid.
